Who is the author, or what is the title of a book which was about 2 rival funeral homes, who both sabotaged ?

each others funerals, with hilarious schemes, putting the wrong sighns on the road, so that the funeral party ended up in a muddy field, tampering with a hearse so the coffin fell out,ect, it was done to discredit each other as they were both hoping to get contract for another funeral home, and there could be only 1 winner. hpoe someone can help me, i read it about 2 years ago, its a male author in uk, and i think it was to be made into a film, think it wa printed 1980s.
