Computer literate only, how do I find out what sound card I have now?

ATTN: hackers, computer literate, and nerds in general. I can't find what sound card driver I need because dx diagnostic and Device Manager both come up blank and say there is no sound card? I don't remember for the life of me what driver I used. Now what? Is there another way to find out what I need to install on this computer for the sound card.
