Broken hearted! Military men I need your opinion.?

I met this guy 2 years ago. I met him 2 weeks before he entered army's BCT. I thought we are building something (like going into a relatioship), but after BCT he stops communicating with me. I came to find out he was with someone. This situation happened on January of 2008 when he gets deployed. So i decided to somehow forget about him. He had his girlfriend, and I decided to move on with another man. On January 2009, we started talking again thru myspace. He came back from Iraq and since then we start talking every single day. We dont know if it just a co-incident that him and his gf just broke up around december 2008 and me and my bf just broke up on january 2009. So we build a friendship, and it turns out to be more than being just friends, but it is a long distance. We only see each other twice for that whole year. December 2009, before he comes home for visit everything suddenly changed. We both decided to end up this kind of relationship because he fell for someone who is physically close to him, and I agree to end this because I realized that I can't wait for someone who's wasn't sure what he really wants. He never asked me for a committed relationship. I love him but I have to let him go and I want to move on with my life. I need your advice and opinion. Am I right for letting him go?
